Navigating direct democracy: Global State of Direct Democracy
On 5 September we were hosting a webinar to explore the direct democracy institutions around the world, their importance in today's political landscape and global trends in direct democracy. This webinar explored the details and provided a brief overview of direct democracy institutions, their importance in today's political landscape and global trends in direct democracy.
Switzerland is often hailed as the "gold standard" for direct democracy. This report builds on this tradition while examining other countries' practices and best examples. Direct democracy institutions have a long and dynamic history in many countries, but their experience rarely hit the headlines. As civil society movements and activists over the world fight for introducing citizens rights to initiate and veto legislation at the local, regional and national level, it is more important than ever to identify best practices and learn from each other.
The webinar not only provided an overview of the Global State of Direct Democracy Report and presented the Report's findings in detail. It was also a possibility to ask questions to the authors of the Report and delve into discussion of fascinating world of direct democracy.
